Tillamook

crabbing, clamming, fishing, mushroom hunting….

New to all four, if you are looking for professional advice, I am the wrong person; however, the BF is not a newb and this is the basics of what he taught me –

  1. If you’re going crabbing, you apparently need to be there and start right before low tide. When the tide come in, they apparently bury themselves and you are SOL.
  2. It seems you can find mushrooms off the highway just about anywhere near the coast. We have a couple spots we go regularly, but if I told you, he would then have to kill me, then you… then he’d have to kill me again because I’m sure it’s expensive & annoying AF to kill that many people with a bow & arrow so he’d probably be pissed.
  3. Clamming – same thing. Low Tide B******! Seems to be a recurring key factor in catching shellfish…
  4. Speaking of – make sure you pick yourself up a “Shellfish[ish] Permit” from ODFW. It’s cheap as shit and they will randomly pull up and ask for it.
  5. CHECK ODFW before you do any of the above! Whether it’s limits or size restrictions, a crabbing ban due to an algae bloom, or a small watercraft advisory for crabbing on the bay – they know shit! Shit you want and need to know.
